June Newsletter

June 8, 2012

Did you hear that summer is coming this weekend?

We are starting to feel the humidity, but are ready for some sunshine.  The fresh fruits and vegetables are wonderful.  Even our shop’s cherry-tomatoes will be exploding soon.

Everyone here is busy knitting, crocheting, and needlepointing models to show off some new favorite designs.  The sky is the limit for alternative yarns to substitute for different looks and feels.

“Sassy”, done in Hempathy  by ‘Elsebeth  Lavold’, is a cute sassy tank designed by ‘C2 Knits’.  A ruffley trim at the bottom adds a little fun to this top that can be worn as is or over another summer top.  Two of the many yarns that could be substituted include Riveting  by ‘Kollage’ and Mulberry  by ‘Louisa Harding’.

This tee with a cowl neck was designed by ‘Sirdar’ originally for Flirt, but done here with Juicy, a wonderful drapey cotton/bamboo.  Among other DK yarns, one could substitute ‘Sublime’s’ bamboo & pearls  or ‘Ella Rae’s’ Bamboo Silk.

This darling tee designed by ‘Knit One crochet too’ features Pediwick, a bamboo/nylon yarn originally designed for summer socks.  The ‘fan and feather’ lace work at the neck and the bottom adds a lovely feminine touch.   ‘Classic Elite’s’ Allegoro  and Firefly would make gorgeous alternatives but not have the stretchiness of the Pediwick.

This cute-as-a-button child’s vest was designed by ‘Sirdar’ and crocheted with ‘Sirdar’s’ Snuggly DK.  Again, a large assortment of children’s machine washable yarns and colors available for your favorite little one, ages birth to 7.

This photo does very little justice for the back of this incredible Pointelle Vest by ‘Sublime’, done in their new egyptian cotton dk.  Absolutely exquisite with a multitude of colors or other yarn choices.

New needlepoint canvases and finished models come through the shop very quickly, but three of our favorite recent ones include these:

If you have not seen these in person yet, you must come visit to appreciate them.  The furry squirrel is our exclusive  ‘Roanoke Squirrel’ designed by ‘Labors of Love’ and can clip onto your holiday tree.

**Come shop the beautiful creations from the Artisans Center.  The pottery animal tea  pots have been a favorite.

**We still have room in the Turkish Lace Wave Shawl and the Diagonal Lace Shawl classes being offered in June.

**In addition to our Sale Room, we are continuing to discount 4 select yarns and canvases each week. This week, the yarns are Pure Pima and Inca Gold by Berroco, Kids Rock by KFI, and Pebbles  by Classic Elite.

When the gardening and the sun get to be too much, come cool off with us and stitch or shop awhile.   During the summer, if you plan to shop after 4:30, please call ahead to let us know; we may close early if things are quiet so we can go home and stitch!
